Second Round of HCG

Down 40 pounds at Christmas

This six-week round on the HCG protocol makes me a bit more nervous than my first round. I started off the first round like a kid jumping into the deep end of a pool. I was going to do this whether it scared me to death or not. So, I closed my eyes, plugged my nose and jumped into the water. I ended up swimming through the process. Maintenance was relatively easy because it was the path I had walked down most of the time anyway with my eating. This second round I knew what I was getting into. I knew where this was headed. And I knew that it would be tough.

I started the second round after our annual family winter vacation where we spend a long weekend at a cabin in the mountains. All cooped up together. And when I say we, I mean my parents, my seven siblings, their spouses and children. This year that meant 39 of us were up there together. It is a five-bedroom cabin and we turn a couple of other rooms into bedrooms but that means that most of the kids are sleeping on the floor. And one kitchen and one family room where we all congregate throughout the day. That means the seating is always at a premium and there is a lot of food to feed that many people.

I knew I had to get this winter vacation behind me in order to start this program successfully. I survived Thanksgiving and Christmas unscathed while doing my first round and maintenance but I knew that being cooped up with my family for a week surrounded by all kinds of treats and not able to control all of my own food choices would make it really difficult to be just starting a very low calorie plan. So, I waited.

I started my second round on Friday, February 8th.  So far, so good. I am nervous, scared and hoping that I am not, once again, making a big, big mistake. My goal is to post every day in the month of March about my progress, the ups and downs, and my plans for what is next. Is this really the path for me? What about my love for Paleo? Where do I hope the next few months will take me?

Stick around to find out.
